Read Our Story:
We are EChO — Eradicate Childhood Obesity Foundation, Inc.—a 501(c)(3) public charity based in Cambridge, MA. Founded in 2015, our mission is to eradicate childhood obesity by originating creative, radical projects in the United States to facilitate awareness of the critical importance of healthy nutrition.
EChO’s projects range from novel applications of technology to intersection of nutrition education with other impactful fields such as Arts and Culture. We have created several groundbreaking initiatives to serve the needs of community in the Greater Boston, because Boston alone is currently dealing with its own severe issue of childhood obesity (almost 40% in Boston versus 30% nationwide).
One of the projects we have originated is SugAR Poke App. It is a smartphone/tablet application that uses augmented reality (AR) to tell its users how much added sugar is in a package of certain food, as nutritional labels on the processed foods are purposely misleading the customers. The demo version of SugAR Poke, that currently scans salad dressings and yoghurts, is already available and free to the public, and we are continuing to increase the number of products so that eventually anyone can scan nearly all of the products in the grocery stores to make healthier food choices.
With your support and help, we can deliver a fully functioning SugAR Poke sooner to the public.
